FRANKLIN: He watched her as she approached slowly, her fingers twisting and untwisting around and into each other, bottom lip pouting and trembling, a solitary tear resting on the tip of her lower lashes. This was the hardest thing he’d ever done in life, but it had to be done. As much as he wanted to grab her up and hold her in his arms, he had to back away and let her figure out what she wanted with her future. He could no longer pretend he didn’t care as much as he really did. Stifling his urges, his passion, his love, while waiting for her “to be sure,” was breaking his heart. He had to call the relationship off.
Carmella heard the words Franklin was saying, but couldn’t comprehend. She could see his lips moving, but her mind was blocking her ability to put the sentences in any logical context. What was he saying? She shook her head to clear the fog, but it didn’t help. She no more wanted to hear him than she wanted to hear what he was saying. Was he really saying they should break-up?
“What are you saying?” Her voice came out in barely a whisper.
“I’m saying this is not working for me. I can’t keep coming here day in and out and not know how I will find you. What frame of mind will you be in? Will you love me or will you push me away? I can’t take it anymore. I can’t be the toad you kick around because you aren’t ready to have a prince in your life. I’ve been telling you this for days now. Call me when you’re ready to stop thwarting my every effort to make this relationship work.
Sighing heavily, Bernard closed his eyes for a second before looking in Ivy’s direction. He was angry and hurt. The hurt over ruled so much all he wanted to do was cry, but not in front of her.It was all that he could do to keep himself from running out of the building like a heartbroken little girl, the dismay and disbelief ran that deep. He pinched the space between his eyes to calm himself.
“Ivy, I can’t even tell you how I feel about this. I’ve mentioned it many times before. So many times, in fact, that I am beginning to think I sound needy. I’m finding it very hard to believe there is nothing going on between you and Nathaniel. You say you’re trying to match him with Lillie-Rose and yet I never see him with her. I always seem to find you huddled next to him, you smiling up at him or you deep in conversation. I can’t handle myself being so jealous and if you’re trying to play some kind of game to keep me in this emotional hell, I have to tell you, it hurts. Do you even realize what you are doing to me? Can you imagine how you make me feel?”
Holding back the tears shoving to escape, he paused to clear his throat and grab the reins of his emotions. The small action bolstering his determination to show her he had become tired of the ridiculous peek-a-boo she’d been playing with their relationship. Four months of love-me-love-me-not, had taken its toll.
“I don’t know what you were trying to prove with the little scenario you were delivering with such perfection, Ivy, or whether or not Nathaniel is a part of it, all I can tell you is this, you’re killing me. I can’t prove myself any better than I already have. If you’re trying to make me jealous or you’re,” he paused to clear his throat again. “Or you’re really in a relationship with him; I need you to understand I will not stand around and watch as you try to pull together some fanciful fairytale life. If I haven’t shown myself to be yours by now, then I never will. When you get your story straight, call me.” He stepped back and reached for the handle of the door. “You know where you can find me. I’ll be the one standing next to the white horse.”
“Okay Lillie-Rose, don’t answer me. I’m just going to have to believe what he has told me. You regretted breaking up after losing his child and then I come into the picture and make him see where he messed up. I’m going to have to believe you two never really ended the relationship you had as kids and I’m going to step out of the picture.” Without another word Nathaniel turned to walk out of the door.
Rushing forward, she made to grab for his shirt tail and missed as he slipped through the opening, closing it softly behind him.

Dinner was the best she’d had in forever. She hadn’t eaten seafood since leaving her home planet. True, it wasn’t as good as the fish gumbo her adoptive parents had made, but the shrimp still tasted of the sea, and Cheery’s hot sauce hid the aftertaste typical of space-shipped food. And with her second triple shot already half consumed, it was looking like a good evening.
Then a man slid into her booth, put one arm around her shoulder and ran his other hand up her thigh while whispering desperately in her ear. “Please. Pretend you know me for the next five minutes.”
Rage hotter than Cheery’s sauce exploded inside her, along with the overwhelming relief of finally having an outlet for her fury.
The next instant, the interloper had the separate barrels of one double blaster either side of his throat so that her fist rested hard against his Adams apple.
“Um.” The not quite a word came out like a whimper as he put his hands in the air
“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t spatter your feeble sack of brains against the wall behind you?” she growled. She felt him gulp, his throat moving against her knuckles.
“Because I’ll…pay you? Lots?” Large, semi-translucent shades curved to fit his face hid the color of his eyes, but she saw him blink rapidly as she pushed the gun a little harder into his flesh. “Or, if you wait a few seconds, the local authorities can save you the bother.”

When Clouds Touch
“Mom, yes I understand what you are saying, that’s why I’m calling you. I’ve only been gone four hours. Everything is fine. I’m perfectly okay with Malachi. Where did you think I would be? Did you get my note?”
“Note? Note?” Annie’s voice rose an octave on the repeat of the word. A sure sign she had lost all control. “Do you think a few short abrupt sentences explain your action? Do you believe they excuse the way you have left your father and I on the verge of terror? We had no idea where you were or how you had gone. You can’t drive because of your vision. Did you call a taxi? Are you okay? Tell me where you are and we will come and get you.”
“I’m not coming back there.”
“Paisley, honey you aren’t planning anything drastic are you? You were so upset last night. Please, I will talk to your father, make him see we want you happy. Have him change his mind about Malachi. Just come home.” “I’m not coming there, Mom. It’s not my home, its the family home. I moved out and the two of you moved me back in. Took away my freedom, my love, and tried to push me back into the role of a naive child. I can’t return to that.”
“Then what are you going to do?”
“I’m going to spend the next couple of weeks with Malachi, marry him, and then I’ll return as his wife to confront you and Oto-san.”
“What? You’re going to-” Annie MuRong yelled to her husband, calling him to the phone relating everything Paisley had said to her. Her voice on the line was immediately replaced by her husband’s angry demanding tirade.
“Paisley Tenshi MuRong, are you serious? You will marry this man?”
“Yes, Oto-san. He’s returning our family’s honor. Isn’t that what you were complaining about the other night? It is my destiny to be with him. Today was an impulsive move. No one was there to spy on me and I called him. It is a good thing I did, he was leaving town. One minute longer and I would have missed him. Its as if it were planned in the stars. Believe this, I’ll be alright. When I return, I’ll come there.”
“So, there is nothing I can say?”

New Adult Humorous Contemporary coming July 15th
Carrie squeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the thump of a body against the limo’s hood.
“Maybe I shouldn’t have insisted Sam take a shortcut,” Trent muttered beneath his breath.
She groaned softly. If her boss questioned his actions, then matters must look grim outside. She tensed even further, expecting to hear multiple bodies slam into the car.
Sam braked hard, turned right, and resumed driving a billion miles an hour. If not for the seat belts, she and Trent would’ve sailed into the front seat, and then plastered against the door. To secure her further, Trent protectively placed an arm around her shoulder and pulled her against his warm chest.
She focused on the thumping of his heart. It beat once to three of hers. God, how can he be so calm?
Determined to match his bravery, she tried to raise her head, but he wouldn’t let her.
“Just a little longer, I hope. Sam, when do we depart this third world country?”
“Two more blocks, sir.”
“Thank God. You’ve terrified poor Carrie to death.”
Instantly, the limo’s speed dropped.
She turned her head sideways so Sam might be able to hear her words. “Your driving doesn’t frighten me, Sam, the neighborhood does.”
As if on cue, a round of three loud pops sounded, followed by three thunks into her side door. She squeaked like a mouse at the first thunk. By the third, her body shivered in fear.
Trent’s arms tightened around her as the limo picked up speed again. “We’re okay,” he assured her, then his lips pressed against her temple. His calm certainty silenced her tremors.
Having successfully soothed her, he released his outrage upon Sam. “Why the hell did you drive us through here?”
Sam calmly replied as he drove the car at a billion miles and hours, taking corners at deadly speeds. “I warned you the locals might not welcome us.”
“Someone just shot at us?” Trent yelled.
Sam’s nonchalant reply sounded almost surreal. “I’m sure they didn’t mean for you to take it personally, sir.”

What do you hope readers take with them after reading one of your stories?
I hope that my characters become so real to them that they find themselves thinking about them for days after the book is finished. I want them to be as sad as I am that the book has ended and excited to read the next one. J
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
There are a few messages in my Redemption Series that I hope come through strong. First, true love often requires sacrifice. Second, we all make mistakes. Third, it’s never too late for second chances.
How long have you been a writer?
I’ve always enjoyed writing and did quite a bit of it in college. After that, I needed and outlet for my creativity, so I picked up writing again. I’ve been doing it now full-time for the past three years.
How much time did it take from writing your first book to having it published?
It took me a year to find the right home for Until Darkness Comes. During that time, I probably rewrote it six times. When the offer came through to contract with 5PP, I also had another offer for the book. It was very flattering because so much of this industry is rejection. You really have to have perseverance and thick skin in this business.
What other careers have you had?
Well, I was a rocket scientist and a brain surgeon at Mayo Hospital, but, ultimately, I’ve found that writing is my true calling. J
Do you write under more than one name?
I only write as Melynda Price.
An excerpt from her premier novel Until Darkness Comes – Redemption Series
Olivia took a brave step closer to Liam and cupped the side of his cheek, forcing him to look at her. “Then who are you? Surely you can tell me that. And don’t you dare lie to me, because I know you’re not normal. I’ve never met anyone like you before. Normal guys don’t act like you. Normal guys don’t look like you, and if they do, they’re usually more like…”
“More like what?” His eyebrow arched curiously.
“More like Max, I guess.”
“Well, I can promise you that I am nothing like Max. More like the exact opposite, to tell you the truth.”
“Why do you hate him so much? At first, I thought it was because he was my boyfriend, and that you were just jealous or something. But it’s more than that, isn’t it?”
“There’s a darkness in him, Olivia. Can’t you feel it?”
“I’m not sure how I feel when I’m with Max anymore. I used to feel…carefree—wild and reckless, you know? But lately, I’m starting to just feel…afraid. Like I’m walking on a tightrope and I’m about ready to fall.”
“I’ll catch you,” he whispered, slowly trailing his fingers down the side of her neck.
Her pulse beat erratically beneath his touch; she opened her mouth to say something, but stopped. Instead, she moistened her bottom lip with the tip of her tongue. His heated gaze fell to her lips and she felt Liam’s resolve snap. A wave of desire blasted into her and a soft groan of defeat rumbled in his chest as he lowered his head, capturing her lips in a tender embrace. His kiss tore through her like fire. What started out as tentative and sweet, quickly escalated to urgent and demanding as a rush of adrenaline flooded her veins. She melted into his arms, her lips fitting perfectly against his, like she was made just for him.
He tasted exactly like he smelled—faintly of cloves, delicious. She parted her lips, aching for more and instinctively he responded to her request as if she’d spoken it. Drawing the kiss deeper, his tongue brushed against hers. The more he kissed her, the hungrier she became, fueling an insatiable fire deep in her core.
Olivia wound her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. She’d never felt more starved and yet completely satisfied as she did at that very moment. He tightened his arms around her waist and pulled her against him, as if he couldn’t get close enough. Her feet left the ground as he molded her to his lean, powerful body.
Time momentarily ceased. She had no idea how long they stood there in each other’s arms as the floor of the boat rocked beneath his feet. The captain’s voice crackled over the speaker, announcing the end of their tour. A reluctant groan escaped Liam’s lips as he broke their kiss and slowly released her. Olivia stumbled when her feet touched ground and his hand shot out to steady her…
